Empty Stockings Fund kicks off

Sending letters to Santa in care of the North Pole is a time-honored tradition. Sometimes those letters make a few stops in their magical journey, and they land in the hands of helpful elves before eventually connecting with St. Nick.

That is the case with two letters from local families this holiday season. The pleas to Santa arrived here, at The Inter-Mountain. Just like post offices and community outreach services, the newspaper is a place where those in desperate need sometimes turn for help.

The Inter-Mountain was moved by the simple wishes of the children and the families. We hope our readers will be, too, and will offer whatever assistance they are able to as part of the paper’s Empty Stockings Fund inaugural campaign.

The initiative aims to provide a helping hand to those in need in an effort to bring them a merrier holiday season.

The letters have been vetted and their credibility verified along with confirmation that a need truly exists. The two families have fallen through the cracks of other assistance-based organizations, because deadlines already have passed for this Christmas.

Yet, their need is no less great. Therefore, The Inter-Mountain is reaching out to members of the community to see whether enough elves in our region can help Santa and those stationed in the North Pole.

To donate, please bring or mail unwrapped gifts, gift cards, etc., to The Inter-Mountain’s main headquarters at 520 Railroad Ave., Elkins, WV, 26241, or our bureau office at 3 Traders Alley, Buckhannon, WV, 26201.
