Highland Park fire damages home

ELKINS – The Elkins Fire Department responded to a house fire shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday on Reed Street in the Highland Park area.

“It was an electrical fire that started in the attic but we were able to knock it down pretty quickly,” Elkins Fire Chief Tom Meader said. “A little later and it could have been worse.”

Meader said that area residents called in reporting smoke coming from the eaves of the home. The family was in the process of moving to a new residence and were not present at the time of the fire, he said.

Meader estimated $4,000 in damages.
