Men overstay their welcome

Two local men were arrested Saturday after being discovered staying illegally in an unfinished room at the Four Seasons motel in Elkins, police said.

Matthew Douglas Witsoe, 25, of Beverly, was charged with one count of entering without breaking other than dwelling, and one count of possesion with intent to deliver a Schedule 1 substance, both felonies.

Christopher William Dodrill, 23, of Elkins, was charged with one felony count of entering without breaking other than dwelling.

Chief Magistrate Ben Shepler set bond for each man at $30,000 cash or surety. Both were being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail as of presstime.

According to the criminal complaint, two Elkins City Police officers were called to the motel and told two men were in a room that was still under construction.

Inside the room the officers found Witsoe and Dodrill, according to the complaint. Witsoe had a large knife strapped to his belt, and he told the officers he had marijuana in his jeans. Police found two plastic bags full of a substance that appeared to be marijuana on his person, along with “a large amount of currency” and a purple Crown Royal bag containing a digital scale with residue.

Asked why they were in the room, Dodrill said they thought someone they knew was staying there and knocked on the door, and when they found it was unlocked and the room was empty they “decided to stay at the room for the night, being found the next morning by the cleaning lady,” according to the complaint.
