ON TRAC ready to light up Elkins for holiday season

ELKINS – Elkins ON TRAC is decorating several areas of town in time for the Christmas season.

ON TRAC’s design committee, whose job it is to improve the appearance of downtown, is planning to add some pizzazz to several buildings from the Elkins Depot to Davis Avenue. The group will place LED rope lights to be on display year-round, particularly during the holiday season, Elkins ON TRAC Project Manager Karen Carper said.

“We had seen the display in Buckhannon and we wanted something with a simpler approach,” Carper said. “We wanted to add a little something to that side of town that would be enticing to visitors.”

Carol Bush, ON TRAC design committee chairperson, said the idea was born after residents voiced their interest in lighting the area, particularly for the very popular Polar Express excursion train trips each year.

“We were able to bring the idea to some of the owners of the buildings in that area of town and picked four locations where we would put the lights,” Bush said.

The four target locations for the lighting are the old Del Monte building, the Bialek building, Joey’s Bike Shop and the Wilt building.

“The business owners have all been cooperative,” Bush said.

Volunteers have already hung up some lights on the Bialek building and decoration of the other buildings is slated to follow in the coming days.
