Police look for robber

WESTON – Police are searching for a robber who stole money from the 7-Eleven store in Weston on Thanksgiving day.

The Weston Police Department said a man entered the convenience store at 736 North Main Ave. at 7:47 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk. He then fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to a press release Friday.

The robber was seen wearing a brown-hooded sweater beneath camouflage overalls. His face was covered, but his eyes were exposed, the release stated.

Anyone who recognizes the individual or who might know any information about the robbery is encouraged to call the department at 304-269-3207.

Heavy traffic and harsh early winter weather conditions often can breed safety concerns for the rush of shoppers Thanksgiving week, police said. Deputy J.M. Kennedy of the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department said Black Friday was a relatively safe experience in Buckhannon, with no reports of shoplifting or major wrecks.

“Everything was pretty good,” Kennedy said Friday. “When it started snowing (Thursday) and even the day before Thanksgiving, the roads were getting pretty bad and people were going into ditches. No one was, thankfully, injured in any incident.”
