Elkins woman facing two felony counts of uttering
ELKINS – An Elkins woman is facing felony uttering charges, police said.
Ann Marie See, 21, was arrested on two counts of uttering. See is free on a $30,000 personal recognizance bond.
According to the criminal complain, West Virginia State Police officials received a report from a woman on Oct. 25 who said her bank account was overdrawn due to See writing checks on the account.
The woman showed police copies of four checks which she said “were taken from her check book without her permission,” the complaint reads. According to police, the four checks were all signed by the alleged victim and three of them were made out to See, who also signed the backs of the checks. The fourth was made out to another individual, who also signed the check, according to the criminal complaint. The alleged victim told police that she didn’t know the other individual, but that she worked with See in Elkins.
According to the criminal complaint, the four checks were written between Sept. 25 and Oct. 11, totaling $380.
Police were able to acquire video of See in the drive-thru of Davis Trust Bank “at the same time of the date and stamp on the checks that were cashed,” the criminal complaint reads.
Police had tried to contact See as far back as Oct. 28, but she told them she was in the hospital for medical reasons, according to the criminal complaint.
