Woman charged with felony

ELKINS – A Beverly woman was arrested on Wednesday on shoplifting charges after reportedly stealing items for her child, according to police.

Emmy Lou Harris, 30, was arrested on one charge of third offense shoplifting, a felony. Harris was arraigned by Randolph County Magistrate Rob Ennoble and her bond was set at $25,000 personal recognizance.

Elkins Police officials were dispatched to Wal-Mart in Elkins on Jan. 27, court documents state. Upon arrival Wal-Mart employees informed police that Harris “has concealed and passed the final point of sale with $25.88 worth of merchandise,” according to the criminal complaint.

When police asked Harris why she was shoplifting the items she said that she “had purchased things for a couple of her kids and did not have enough money to buy for all of them so she stole some things for the other child,” the criminal complaint states.

Police discovered that Harris had two prior convictions dating back to July and October 2012. Harris had also been previously served with a “no trespass” order for Wal-Mart, according to the police.
