Toy car race to spin into area

BELINGTON – Load the best Hot Wheels toy cars that can be found and spin down to Belington on Sunday for a special racing program.

The Drags not Drugs program at 2 p.m. in the Belington Civic Center test the racing skills of individuals in three categories: children ages 1-8, children ages 9-17 and adults 18 and older.

Since March of 2006, the Diecast Dragsters have set a goal to host an activity that both children and their parents can enjoy while still teaching valuable anti-drug information.

Participants bring a small toy car, about the size of those manufactured by Hot Wheels, and are able to race them down a 42-foot slope that is four lanes wide with an electronic finish line. The event also features a 1/64 scale car show.

Activities include at least two special races. Children can race against a real police officer who will attend in uniform. They also get to race their toy fire trucks and rescue vehicles against firemen and EMTs. Special prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Other races include trucks, NASCAR, military and a Custom Redline race as well as races for each of the three different age groups.

The races are hosted by Diecast Dragsters of Philippi. For more information, contact the organization at 304-613-7261.
