Barbour man hurt in farm accident

PHILIPPI – A man was flown to a Morgantown hospital after being trapped between a tree and a tractor Monday afternoon, officials said.

Philippi Fire Chief David Utt said a middle-aged man, whose name had not been released by presstime, was feeding his cows in his field – near the Porter Shaffer Road and Valley Furnace in Barbour County – when the tractor slid and he became pinned between the tractor and a tree.

A HealthNet helicopter arrived shortly after the incident was reported and were able to land on scene. The man was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital with injuries to both of his legs.

Utt said crews spent more than an hour at the scene. The Philippi Fire Department, Belington Fire Department, Barbour County EMS and the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department were among the agencies to respond.
