Snow expected to strike again today

ELKINS – It seems as though Old Man Winter just wont’ give up, as temperatures in the area are expected to plummet today.

National Weather Service officials in Charleston said rain will likely turn into snow today as temperatures fall throughout the afternoon and into the overnight hours.

“It looks like you all are going to have rain showers on and off all day,” NWS Staff Meteorologist Andrew Beavers said. “It could turn to snow in the early afternoon and continue until about 2 a.m.”

Beavers said little, if any, accumulation is expected from the snow showers, as the ground is still so warm from the weekend’s higher temperatures.

“I don’t think you will accumulate anything at all and if it does it will just be on the grass,” he added.

The high for today is predicted to be 49 degrees, occurring during the morning hours, and temperatures will continue to drop as the day progresses.

The overnight low for tonight will be around 25 degrees.

Beavers said residents should take any precautions they think are necessary to protect outdoor plants. He also said he didn’t believe it will be cold enough to cause pipes to freeze, break or burst.

The weather will soon start to improve with a high of 51 degrees predicted for Wednesday, and temperatures expected in the 60s Thursday and nearing 70 degrees on Friday.
