Area business destroyed by fire

BUCKHANNON – A fire ripped through a historic Buckhannon business on Thursday, causing significant damage.

Buckhannon Fire Department firefighter Lt. J.B. Kimble said the blaze erupted at the Feola’s Flowers, at 196 South Kanawha St. He said the building will likely be a total loss.

“We received the call at 11:26 a.m. and cleared the scene at 1:01 p.m.,” Kimble said. “The fire got into the attic of the building and went from one end to the other.”

Kimble said the business also lost inventory during the blaze, but there were no injuries in the fire. He said the West Virginia Fire Marshall’s Office has been called to help determine what caused the blaze, but no suspicious activities are expected.

According to the business’s website, Feola’s Flowers is one of the oldest family owned businesses in Buckhannon, having first opened its doors in 1934.

Kimble said the Washington District and Warren District volunteer fire departments also responded, along with the Upshur County EMS and the Buckhannon City Police.
