Community Fair slated
BROOKS HILL – Good food, music and people are on tap to gather at the Brooks Hill Community Fair on Friday and Saturday.
Brooks Hill Community Building Association President Jim Crouse said the annual event features two days of activities the whole family can enjoy.
“It is free admission and family oriented,” Crouse said. “We keep the kids busy through the event.”
The fair will begin on Friday with opening ceremonies slated for 6 p.m. at the Brooks Hill Community Building, located about 28 miles outside Buckhannon. Crouse said after the opening, visitors can gather for social time, a cakewalk and an auction. He said the kitchen will be open and serving food including barbecue chicken and pulled pork.
At 9 p.m., Cray Times Karaoke will be on hand to give locals and visitors the opportunity to show off their singing talents. Crouse said Saturday will be packed with events for the youth.
Youth activities will kick-off at 10 a.m. with a pie-eating contest. Crouse said at 11 a.m., a Baby Bottle Contest will begin where children will compete to see who can drink from a baby bottle the fastest.
At noon, youth will be able to dive into a change pool. Crouse explained that pool will be filled with sand and change will be hidden throughout the pool for youth to search for it. He said at 2 p.m., there will be a big bubble contest, where youth see who can blow the largest bubble; at 3 p.m. there will be a water balloon toss; and a sack race is slated for 4 p.m.
Crouse said Saturday will also feature entertainment.
“We will have an open mic all day on Saturday,” Crouse said. “We will be breaking in our new stage.”
At 7 p.m. on Saturday, Hogans Goat will take the stage for a performance.
There is also an ATV Dice Run slated for Saturday. Registration is $10 and will be from 9-11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the highest and lowest dice roll. There will also be door prizes and camping is available at the James Curry campground near the community building.
Crouse said there will also be several crafters selling their wares for the event. He said there is no charge for any crafter that wants to set up a table.
