Event slated for Aug. 2 at EHS

ELKINS – For many area residents, summertime is filled with vacations, cookouts and other outdoor activities. Instead of traveling far and wide, though, families can take advantage of one local event this year that not only promises fun and food, but a chance to shop for a variety of products all at one location.

The Inter-Mountain and Roy’s RV Supercenter will present the Community Expo from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 2 at Elkins High School.

The free event will draw vendors from all over Central West Virginia that offer a bevy of items for sale and demonstration.

Frontier Communications, Dels. Denise Campbell and Bill Hartman, Bates Carpet, Roy’s RV Supercenter, The Inter-Mountain and Snowshoe Mountain Resort are just of few of the businesses and individuals scheduled to appear.

In addition, food will be available for purchase and all those who attend will be eligible to win door prizes donated by a variety of area businesses.

Also, the first 2,500 visitors to the event will receive a free bag to store purchases and items collected at the Expo.

Activities for children are planned during the event, and both the Elkins Police and Elkins Volunteer Fire departments will be on hand showcasing their equipment and personnel. The police department also will have K-9 Officer Macy on hand to visit with children and local residents.

Throughout the event, The Inter-Mountain will be taking photographs of children with emergency services workers and will provide a free 4×6 print to each family during the week following the Expo.

“This is going to be a fantastic event that will not only showcase the amazing businesses in our area, but those who work hard every day to keep our community safe,” said Inter-Mountain Advertising Director Michelle Hammonds. “We are excited to put together this free, family friendly Expo that will provide local residents an opportunity to have a fun-filled day right in their own backyard.”

Entertainment also will be provided throughout the day and will include the Axis dance team, country music singer Michael Bonnett and much more.

“The Community Expo will really help bring our community together,” Hammonds said. “The event gives our local businesses a chance to connect with their neighbors on a one-on-one basis in a family friendly and fun atmosphere.”
