Man facing bigamy charges

ELKINS – Authorities arrested a man and charged him with bigamy Monday more than 10 years after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

David Christopher Abbott, 44, of Richmond, Va., is charged with one felony count of bigamy. Magistrate George M. “Mike” Riggleman set bond Monday at $10,000 cash or surety.

A warrant for Abbott’s arrest was issued on Dec. 3, 2003, by Randolph County Magistrate Michele Good.

According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 3, 2003, Sr. Tpr. C.B. Shrader of the West Virginia State Police was told by Leigh Ann Rhinehart Abbott that “she was currently in the process of having her marriage annulled and during the paperwork process being completed by her attorney it was discovered that Abbott had not been legally divorced in the state of Virginia, County of Powhatan.”

Abbott is currently being housed at Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
