Man jailed in sex case
ELKINS – A Belington man is being held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash or surety bond after being charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
Chezaray Lamar Johnson, 23, was arraigned Tuesday by Randolph County Magistrate George M. “Mike” Riggleman on four felony counts of sexual assault in the third degree.
According to the criminal complaint, on June 28, Trooper J.B. Tindal of the West Virginia State Police received a telephone call from the alleged victim’s mother stating that “her 15-year-old daughter had been raped.”
Later in that same day, the alleged victim and her mother met with Tindal at the State Police detachment in Elkins. Tindal interviewed the alleged victim, who told him “she had been raped two times, sometime in the middle of May 2014 by a 23 year old male, Chezaray Johnson,” and that the incidents “happened at her father’s house located in Elkins,” the complaint states.
At the conclusion of the interview, the alleged victim “disclosed that she willingly had sexual intercourse with Chezaray Johnson four times from May 2014 until this date (June 28),” according to the complaint.
On June 29, Tindal met with Johnson at the Elkins detachment. During the interview, Johnson “confessed to have (sic) sexual intercourse with the 15-year-old victim nine times from May 3, 2014 through June 28, 2014,” and advised that “some of these occurrences happened in Randolph County and some happened in Barbour County,” according to the complaint.
On July 11, Tindal re-interviewed the alleged victim. During the interview, the alleged victim “advised that she had previously lied to Tindal about the number of times that her (sic) and Mr. Johnson had sexual intercourse,” the complaint states.
The alleged victim also told Tindal that “she had sexual intercourse with Mr. Johnson ten times between May 2, 2014 and June 29, 2014,” and that “only four of these occurrences happened in Randolph County,” according to the complaint.
