Gala to celebrate The Beatles
ELKINS – Officials want people to “Come Together” Friday night to help support the Randolph County Community Arts Center.
The theme of the 13th annual RCCAC Gala will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary rock and roll band The Beatles coming to America, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Arts Center.
Judy Van Gundy, first vice president of the RCCAC Board of Directors, said the event will support both art and art education at the facility.
“One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the Arts Center to support our mission to provide quality art and education in the arts for the community,” Van Gundy said.
The event will feature a four -course meal, an open bar and entertainment included in the $60 ticket price.
The meal will include brisket, pork loins, shrimp and all the accompaniments as well as homemade desserts and appetizers, all prepared by RCCAC volunteers.
Following the dinner hour, the tables will be moved and the Arts Center will transform into a dance floor setting.
The entertainment will be the music of The Beatles along with appropriate music from throughout the decades, provided by local disc jockey Zach Elbon.
The Gala will feature a silent auction offering items created by local artisans, including a painting by Michael Doig and pottery by Scottie Weist.
A juried art exhibit is currently featured at the Arts Center, with awards to be presented during the Gala. The exhibit will hang for a few weeks following the event for those who cannot attend Friday.
Van Gundy said people should attend to support the arts in the community, as funding is becoming harder to obtain.
“Come out to support your community arts center,” Van Gundy said. “Funding has been cut, both federal and state, and it’s getting harder and harder to operate a facility like this and there have been several throughout the state that are cutting back or shutting down. We, so far, have been lucky but they’re going to have to step up and support us if they want us to be here.”
Van Gundy said those that can’t make it to the event can still help out by
“If you can’t attend you can still donate to your community arts center,” Van Gundy said. “If you can’t come to the Gala, put the 13th on your calender to help support the Arts Center. There is a wonderful concert featuring Bill Kirchen.”
Tickets are available at the RCCAC office, located at the back of the building. Tickets can also be purchased directly from RCCAC board members.
Doors for the event will open at 6 p.m. Friday.
