Jaiden Morris crowned Buckhannon Bicentennial Queen

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon Bicentennial Committee met Monday evening for its final meeting prior to the Friday celebration.

At the close of the meeting, Mayor David McCauley officially crowned Bicentennial Queen Jaiden Morris, who was unable to attend Friday night’s crowning event because of her cheerleading schedule.

An itinerary for Sept. 30 is being finalized, pending confirmation of invited guests. Parade lineup will be at 5 p.m., with the parade at 6 p.m.. The parade, which could have more than 30 units, will line up on College Avenue, progress down East Main Street, turn down South Florida Street and disperse at Jawbone Park. Residents are reminded not to park on College Avenue and East Main Street beginning at 5 p.m.

At 7 p.m., McCauley will do a welcome, proclamation and introduce royalty and dignitaries. Around 7:15 p.m., the entertainment begins. The Upshur Elementary School Choir, the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Choir, the Buckhannon-Upshur High School choir and marching band and talent show participants have been confirmed.

The Committee is waiting for confirmation from a few more acts.

Upshur County Schools officials have been working to complete video essays about Buckhannon. The three-minute shorts will be shown at the main event. Fireworks will commence around 9 p.m., with the event wrapping up around 10 p.m. The Committee is close to its monetary goal for fireworks, but are still accepting donations.

Other events, such as a time capsule dedication, tree planting, photography contest and beard-growing contest, will run between October and December. The beard-growing contest participants will register when the time capsule is interred at Jawbone Park at 2 p.m. on Oct. 9.
