The Inter-Mountain launches new website

ELKINS — Faster. A cleaner design that’s easier to navigate. Mobile-friendly.

That’s the premise behind The Inter-Mountain’s redesigned website, which launched Tuesday. The site can be accessed online at www.theintermountain.com.

One of the new website’s key features is what’s known as “responsive design,” meaning it provides the same look, feel and functionality to users no matter what device is being used — desktop or mobile. The site will automatically scale and adjust to fit the device being used to view it.

“We are extremely proud of our new website design,” said Heather Goodwin Henline, publisher and general manager of The Inter-Mountain. “It is much faster, has a modern look and, most importantly, is more user friendly for our many readers. That was our focus — to improve the overall online experience for our website visitors.”

“Users also will find the website more responsive to their daily needs on all platforms, whether it be on a desktop computer or a mobile device,” Goodwin Henline added.

“We encourage everyone to visit the site and enjoy its many new and improved features.”

Goodwin Henline also said the site offers even better opportunities for local advertisers to reach the ever-growing digital audience.

Other updated features include a redesigned Garage Sale feature that is mobile-friendly; a faster news content delivery system; the ability to comment on articles through a Facebook account; a searchable archive of more than 30,000 local news and sports articles from the past decade; and links to the most read stories of the day and the latest stories that have been posted.

“For more than 100 years, our newspaper has been the leading source of information for Central West Virginia, providing the day’s news, sports and society happenings for our readers, both in print and, in more recent years, online,” said Matthew Burdette, executive editor of The Inter-Mountain. “Our redesigned website — through increased speed, functionality and a more responsive design — allows us to continue to lead the way in local news in the Elkins region. We are very excited with the end product and believe it will serve the needs of our online readers.”

The site also features a revamped Virtual Newsroom, making it easier for readers to submit items to the newspaper.

Readers also can, on the home page, sign up for the Daily Newsletter, which delivers the day’s top news and sports stories to their email each morning.
