FCES participates in Beautiful Lengths
FRENCH CREEK — French Creek Elementary School hosted Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths for the sixth year Thursday morning. Seven participants, including mothers, teachers and students, chose to donate eight inches of their own hair, and haircuts were provided by Modern Hair Design.
Principal Rebecca Bowers-Call noted that several staff members throughout the Upshur County region have been affected by cancer, and school officials feel donating the hair is a way to give back for those affected. Teacher Jessica McQuain, who has participated in the program for the last six years and spearheads the local committee, has donated eight inches every two years to encourage others within the community to donate.
Pantene provides Beautiful Lengths at no cost to cancer patients through out the country. The country has donated more than 42,000 real-hair wigs to the American Cancer Society Wig Bank, with more than 800,000 ponytails donated to this cause.
Requirements for donation include a length minimum of eight inches, no dyes, bleaches or chemicals and all hair must be no more than 5 percent gray. Each wig takes approximately eight to 15 ponytails to construct and are dyed so each strand is similar in color.
To see if wigs are available in the area, please contact the American Cancer Society Wig Bank Line at 1-877-227-1596. Hair donations are still being accepted locally. For additional information, contact McQuain at 304-914-6381.
