Two arrested after hotel brawl
BUCKHANNON – Two people claiming to be aunt and nephew were arrested after a fracas at the Hampton Inn.
Alexander Doyle Gregory, 21, and Monica Michelle Abrego, 49, both of 5269 Dewitt Drive, Apt. 1H, Cross Lanes, were arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of domestic battery. Gregory also was charged with public intoxication.
Gregory remains incarcerated at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond. Abrego is free on bond.
Officers on Sunday responded to a report of a domestic battery between aunt and nephew at the Hampton Inn. Upon arriving at the inn, Patrolman Marshall O’Connor found Gregory passed out in a downstairs meeting room, according to a criminal complaint.
Prior to passing out, Gregory had vomited on several chairs and in several locations in the meeting room.
Marshall spoke with Gregory, who said he and his aunt had gotten into a fight, court documents allege.
Abrego reported her nephew had accidentally locked himself out of the room and began banging on the door. The fight allegedly began when she opened the door, the complaint states.
Abrego said the two wrestled around before she hit Gregory in the head with a beer bottle and got him in a choke hold, according to the complaint. After Abrego released Gregory, the argument continued and he pushed her down. As a result, the door hit Abrego in the head, causing a puncture wound in the middle of her forehead and a scrape on the bridge of her nose, police allege.
Gregory suffered swelling and a laceration above his left eye and scratches on the side of his neck, the complaint states.
According to the complaint, Gregory claimed he blacked out and did not know how the fight started or what type of injuries he caused to his aunt.
Both individuals were highly intoxicated, police said. During the investigation, police also discovered the two are not actually related.
