Randolph County Senior Center Bazaar offers gift ideas

Many goodies are displayed at the Randolph County Senior Center Bazaar, including jewelry made by Sharon Zirkle, left, who shows her hand-made work to Dee Clark on Friday afternoon.

ELKINS — Many citizens from across Randolph County ventured to the Randolph County Senior Center’s annual December Bazaar this week to check out the variety of hand-made crafts and goodies on sale.

On Thursday and Friday, more than 15 exhibitors took part in the annual bazaar that takes place annually during the first week of December.

A wide variety of pieces were on sale, including ornaments, jewelry, crocheted and knitted items, homemade food and candies, and wooden bowls and cutting boards.

Randolph County Senior Center Activities Director Penny Canfield said, “They are making things all year round to set up at each of the events.”

Canfield noted many exhibitors participate in numerous craft shows and bazaars around the area, and many exhibitors are winding down at this time of year, attempting to sell the remainder of their pieces.

One exhibitor, Sharon Zirkle, said she typically participates in the annual December Bazaar in addition to the Mountain State Forest Festival Senior Bazaar, and enjoys doing so.

Zirkle brings hand-made jewelry, including earrings, bracelets, necklaces and watches.

“The majority of everyone that was here for this bazaar was also here for the festival, but during the festival we had more participants — some of those participants didn’t have anything left over, so they weren’t able to make it this week,” Canfield said.
