Raffety named interim Elkins police chief

ELKINS — Law enforcement veteran and former Upshur County Commissioner J.C. Raffety has been named interim police chief after the sudden resignation of C.D. Cross.

Elkins City Council unanimously voted to accept Cross’ resignation at an emergency meeting Monday; however, Cross will remain with Elkins PD at the rank of first sergeant.

Officials also voted unanimously to hire Raffety to lead the department’s 10-full time officers until a permanent chief can be selected.

Cross’ resignation was tendered to Elkins Mayor Van Broughton on Jan. 18.
