City woman charged with armed robbery

ELKINS — An Elkins woman is behind bars and accused of pulling a gun on a confidential informant who was allegedly attempting to purchase drugs from her.

Christina Kay Woods, 55, is charged with one felony count of armed robbery. She is incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash, surety or property bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate Ben Shepler.

On Thursday, a confidential informant spoke with Senior Deputy D.L. VanMeter, of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, indicating the informant could purchase an “8 ball” of crystal meth from Woods at Lost Treasures. The CI was instructed to set up the transaction, according to the criminal complaint.

Prior to the transaction, officers made contact with the CI and supplied $350 and an audio/video recorder, the complaint states.

Approximately 10 minutes after entering the business, officers observed the CI exit. The CI told officers that Woods said she was trying to “calibrate her scales” and asked the informant to come back 20 minutes later, according to court documents.

Upon returning, the CI told officers Woods said she was “kind of busy” but a family member who lived by the hospital could get something, the complaint states. The CI contacted the family member who said to meet him at a downtown location to make the transaction.

Once there, the CI came out of the location and got into a maroon vehicle, police said. Officers followed the vehicle to Go-Mart, located on Railroad Avenue. The vehicle, which contained four occupants, then went to the building directly across from the Lost Treasures thrift store. At that time, officer David Frazier made contact with the CI.

The CI told Frazier that Woods was sitting directly behind the driver’s seat and had her hand on a silver and black handgun the entire time. Once they parked, Woods told the CI to give her the money and she would be back.

The CI said Woods told the informant that she “knew what (the CI) was doing and that if she ever seen (sic) (the informant) around again that she would kill (the CI).” The informant further admitted being scared about being killed, the complaint states.

Frazier then met with Woods at the Lost Treasures store and she told him she did not know what he was talking about and had no money, the complaint states.

If convicted, Woods could be sentenced to the state penitentiary for not less than 10 years.

If bond is made, Woods must be placed on electronic monitoring through the RCSO and must check in with the North Central Community Corrections program.
