Junior man charged with felony count of wanton engangerment

PHILIPPI — A Barbour County man is behind bars and accused of firing a shotgun at an individual inside a Junior residence.

Robert Darnell Leash, 31, of Junior, is charged with one felony count of wanton endangerment involving a firearm. He is incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Barbour County Magistrate Court, on Feb. 12, Deputy D.J. Carter, of the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department, responded to a Wilson Street residence, in Junior, regarding a shots fired call.

Once on scene, Carter attempted to speak with Leash, who ran into the woods away from the residence upon seeing the officer, police said.

Carter spoke with the alleged victims – a man and a woman — who told him Leash was at the residence and when they tried to leave, he fired a 12-gauge shotgun at the feet of the man and said he would “shoot them for real” if the woman did not come back inside the home and speak with him, according to the complaint.

If convicted, Leash could be sentenced to a determinate sentence of not less than one nor more than five years in the state penitentiary. Or, at the discretion of the court, sentenced to not more than one year in jail, fined not less than $250 nor more than $2,500, or both.

• Robert Lee Frederick, 52, of Belington, is charged with one felony count of daytime burglary.

On Feb. 15, Sgt. B.A. Miller, of the BCSD, was called to a Knobtown Road residence regarding an altercation, according to a criminal complaint filed in Barbour County Magistrate Court.

Upon arrival at the home, Miller spoke to the alleged victim, who said Frederick entered his residence without permission and unknowingly, before yelling profane language and threatening to harm him, the complaint states.

Additionally, the alleged victim said Frederick had kicked him in the leg, leaving a mark, according to the complaint.

If convicted, Frederick could be sentenced to not less than one nor more than 10 years in the state penitentiary.
