Man charged in attempted break-in

ELKINS — A Randolph County man is facing a felony charge after allegedly attempting to break into an area business.

Joshua Norman Williams, 29, of Elkins, is charged with one felony count of attempted breaking and entering. He is incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate George M. “Mike” Riggleman.

On Monday, Senior Deputy M.P. Dyer, of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, received a call from the owner of Elkins Motor Sports, located along the Beverly Five-lane, according to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court.

During that call, the owner said someone had attempted to break into his business over the weekend and he had video surveillance of the alleged incident, police said.

Dyer traveled to the business and obtained a copy of the surveillance footage. It showed a male attempting to gain access to a locked area containing ATVs and motorcycles, according to the complaint.

The individual damaged the gate while trying to get inside of it and caused approximately $250 in damage, the complaint states.

The man got stuck between the gate and the wall while trying to get into the area and, after a few moments, Dyer identified the individual as Williams, according to court documents.

The business owner said Williams had to climb over a chain link fence to be able to enter the area where the damage to the fence occurred, the complaint states.

The alleged incident happened at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to the report.
