VALLEY BEND — The driver of a tractor-trailer sustained only minor injuries after his truck flipped on its side and lost the load it was carrying.

“The driver was transported to the hospital for observation but other than that I don’t think he was hurt bad,” Tygart Valley Fire Company Chief Robert Elbon said.

Elbon said the accident, which took place at approximately noon Wednesday on U.S. 219/250 near Rudd Road in Valley Bend, was caused by a tire on the vehicle blowing out.

“He blew a tire,” Elbon said. “One of the neighbors that was real close to it, out working in the yard, said he blew a tire just as he went into the turn. That changed a whole bunch of things on the load the way it shifted.”

The truck was hauling lumber and belonged to Maple Leaf Trucking from Slaty Fork.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Randolph County EMS also assisted at the scene.
