Tyrand fundraiser scheduled

MILL CREEK — Tyrand Cooperative Ministries Inc. is set to host a Ham and Bean Dinner to raise money for its missions, which benefit Randolph County and beyond.

The dinner is scheduled to take place from 1 to 6 p.m. March 18 at Tyrand on Back Road 39 in Mill Creek. The cost for a dinner is $8, and the cost for for children age 12 and younger is $3. Dinners will include ham, fried potatoes, beans, cornbread, dessert and a drink.

The event is sponsored by The Highland Cooperative Parish for Tyrand’s Emergency Services and is made possible by the volunteers, as well as Tyrand’s director, Belinda Toms.

Tyrand has been putting on this event for more than 10 years. Normally, the fundraiser brings in about $1,000. Volunteers hope to raise that and more this year.

“It’s a day of fellowship with old friends while supporting the local mission,” Toms said. “The volunteers are great and we are very fortunate for their help.”

Tyrand is an ecumenical mission project of the West Virginia Conference of the United States Methodist Church. Presbyterian (USA), Roman Catholic, Southern Baptist, Assembly of God and Church of The Nazarene are other affiliated members.

Ministry is Tyrand’s main objective, through a food pantry; Thanksgiving meal; Christmas food baskets; children’s day camps; home repair for less fortunate, disabled and elderly; a disaster shelter; and Care Net, which helps military families and veterans.

Tyrand’s local concerns are in the Tygart Valley Region of Randolph County, but the group’s ministries have reached other states. For example, volunteers from Tyrand have helped build homes for families in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Anyone who would like to donate to this cause but isn’t able to attend the dinner is welcome to send a tax-deductible gift. Send monetary gifts to Tyrand Cooperative Ministries Inc., PO Box 365, Mill Creek, WV 26280. For more information, call 304-335-2788.
