Board seeks public input on position
ELKINS — The next regular Randolph County Board of Education meeting, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. April 4 at the board office in Elkins, will include a school calendar hearing as well as regular business.
After the meeting, board members are scheduled to receive public comments and suggestions regarding qualities, characteristics and leadership/management style for the board to look for when selecting the incoming county superintendent of schools.
Dr. Howard O’Cull, West Virginia School Board Association executive director, will facilitate that session after the regular meeting. Anyone who would like to speak or present written comments will be able to do so.
The county board had voted Jan. 26 to open a search for a new superintendent and to not renew the contract of Superintendent of Schools Pam Hewitt.
Board of Education members have begun working on a plan for the hiring process, and they said they want to get input from community members, principals, teachers and support staff.
“We are looking for community suggestions for what people would like in a superintendent,” President Donna Auvil said in a prior interview.
Hewitt’s contract will end June 30, and a new superintendent’s term would begin July 1
