Bond in felony case is modified

ELKINS — An Elkins resident who is facing a felony charge after allegedly stealing items from a local retailer and being found in possession of drugs had his bond modified in Randolph County Magistrate Court.

Bond for Joshua Derek Raines, 33, of Mill Creek, was modified from $10,000 cash or surety to $5,000 cash or surety and $5,000 personal recognizance.

He is charged with one felony count of conspiracy to commit a felony.

Additionally, probable cause for his arrest was found to have been met, meaning his case will be bound over to the Randolph County Circuit Court for presentation to a grand jury.

Randolph County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Leckta Poling represented the state while Raines appeared with Melissa Roman as defense counsel.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court, at approximately 3:29 p.m. on Sunday, Elkins Police Department Senior Patrolman B.D. Tice and Patrolman T.C. Bennett responded to Dollar General Store, located on Third Street in Elkins, regarding two individuals allegedly shoplifting.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the store manager, who pointed out a female and male individual, later identified as Holly Renae Satterfield, 25, of Elkins, and Raines, police said. While speaking to the pair, Bennett noticed an unopened package of deodorant in the pocket of a jacket Raines was carrying.

Bennett searched Raines and located one two-pack of Degree deodorant, one pack of Dollar General brand of AAA batteries, and one pack of Duracell batteries, as well as a round plastic container with a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, one LG smartphone with a white case and 150 plastic fold top sandwich bags, court documents state.

Raines told the officers all the items had come from the Dollar General store with the exception of the methamphetamine, according to the complaint.

Tice conducted a search of Satterfield’s purse and located one Neutrogena cleansing towelette, one Dollar General brand sponge, one Kleenex Fresh-N-Go, one Kiss Nstick makeup, one Fashion 5â–Š7 notebook, one Dollar General brand bottle of makeup remover, one bottle of Excedrin migraine pills, one package of RX travel toothbrush covers, one package of Kleenex tissues, one Secret deodorant and one “Health Care Product,”according to the complaint.

Satterfield reportedly told officers that all the items had come from the Dollar General store.

Upon further investigation of Satterfield’s purse, officers located small plastic bags marked with “4:20” containing .6 grams of suspected heroin, one gram of white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, 1.5 grams of white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, 1.95 grams of a green plant-like substance believed to be marijuana, one change purse containing empty bags marked “4:20,” one folding mirror with two razor blades inside, one Triton brand digital scale and one black LG smartphone, according to court documents.

Satterfield has convictions for first-offense shoplifting on Feb. 29, 2016, and second-offense shoplifting on Sept. 29, 2016, the complaint states.

Satterfield’s case is still pending in Randolph County Magistrate Court.
