Elkins man charged with grand larceny

ELKINS — A Randolph County man is behind bars and accused of stealing a vehicle from an area residence.

Edwin Mack Taylor, 49, of Elkins, is charged with one felony count of grand larceny. He is incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate Rob Elbon.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court, at approximately 12:35 p.m. on Nov. 9, Elkins City Patrolman C.G. Boatwright was advised by Randolph County 911 to call a male individual who was the victim of an alleged vehicle theft.

Boatwright spoke with the alleged victim, who said his white 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe, with no West Virginia registration, was stolen out of his yard the previous night, police said.

He added Taylor had been working on the vehicle and drove it off without permission. He told Boatwright that Taylor’s girlfriend was still at his residence and might know where he went, the complaint states.

Boatwright spoke to the woman, who said she was not actually Taylor’s girlfriend and she didn’t know how to get in touch with him. She added she believed Taylor was taking another female toward Huttonsville, according to court documents.

At that time a BOLO (be on the lookout) was put out for the vehicle, police said. Taylor was booked into TVRJ Thursday.

If convicted, Taylor could be sentenced to not less than one nor more than 10 years in the state penitentiary, or, at the discretion of the court, sentenced to not more than one year in jail and fined not more than $2,500.
