Elkins woman is facing felony theft charge
ELKINS — A Randolph County woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly stealing a variety of items from an area retailer.
Chrystal L. Cutright, 30, of Elkins, is charged with one felony count of third-offense shoplifting. She is incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate Rob Elbon.
At approximately 5:09 p.m. on Jan. 23, Randolph County Sheriff Deputy E.B. Carr responded to a Randolph County 911 call concerning an alleged shoplifter at Wal-Mart, located at 721 Beverly Pike in Elkins, according to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court.
Upon arrival at the location, Carr was told the female shoplifter had fled prior to his arrival, police said. The female was identified by store employees as Cutright.
A loss prevention manager for the store said Cutright had stolen miscellaneous items valued at $200.94, according to the complaint.
Based on a statement given by the manager, Cutright stuffed several items into a black backpack before going down a closed register lane and out the doors on the grocery side of the store.
Cutright got into a silver Dodge Journey and left the store without paying for the merchandise, according to court documents.
A criminal history check showed Cutright had a prior conviction for second-offense shoplifting on April 4, 2015, the complaint states.
If convicted, Cutright could be sentenced to not less than one nor more than 10 years in the state penitentiary and fined not less than $500 nor more than $5,000. At least one year of the sentence is required to be served, whether in confinement in the state penitentiary or on home confinement.
