Man charged with threatening terroristic acts

ELKINS — A Randolph County man is behind bars after he allegedly took to Facebook after a family court hearing and made threats toward law enforcement and judges as well as making sympathetic statements about Micah Xavier Johnson, who ambushed and shot Dallas police officers, killing five of them, in July 2016.

Aaron Eugene Cave, 42, of Beverly, is charged with one felony count of threatening to commit terroristic acts. He is incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate Rob Elbon.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court, on Thursday, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. B.A. Talkington was advised that Cave made threats against law enforcement and judges in Randolph County.

In the threat, posted on Facebook, Cave mentioned that during a hearing in family court, the judge made him give $100 out of his wallet for a Bureau of Child Support Enforcement case, the complaint states. Talkington confirmed with the bailiff of the court that it was an accurate account of what happened during the prior day’s hearing.

The post made references about attacking “badge wearing (expletives).” He also mentioned the Dallas “massacre” in the post on two occasions, saying Johnson “stood up” against law enforcement and claimed he now “fully understood” why it happened, according to a copy of the alleged Facebook post that was attached to the criminal complaint.

Later in the post, Cave allegedly wrote, “they will get there’s (sic) one day everytime (sic) from this day forward if I see a badge wearing (expletive) in a store watch and see if that isn’t what they get called like yesterday (expletive) you (expletive) hide behind a badge mother (expletives).”

If convicted, Cave could be sentenced to not less than one year nor more than three years, fined not less than $5,000 nor more than $25,000, or both.
