Randolph County man charged with sexual abuse

ELKINS — A Randolph County man is behind bars and accused of inappropriately touching a co-worker.

Matthew Wayne Kelley, 43, of Elkins, is charged with one felony count of first-degree sexual abuse. He is incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash or surety bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate Rob Elbon.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court, on Wednesday, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. B.A. Talkington responded to Nella’s Nursing Home in Crystal Springs regarding a female employee who claimed to have been “sexually accosted.”

Once at the facility, Talkington spoke to the alleged victim, who said Kelley came into her office, closed the door and blinds, and said he had something personal to talk about, the complaint states.

At that time, Kelley went behind the alleged victim’s desk, causing her to put her chair between the two of them, court documents state. She reportedly said to Kelley, “No, what are you doing? Get out.”

The alleged victim yelled for her brother, who is also an employee at the nursing home. Kelley then allegedly reached around the chair and grabbed the “buttocks” of the alleged victim, according to the complaint.

The brother of the alleged victim “removed” Kelley from the room before Kelley was fired and sent home, according to court documents.

Since that time, three other female employees have come forward to report similar incidents, the complaint states.
