Magistrate denies bond modification

ELKINS — A request for a bond modification was denied in the case of a Randolph County woman who failed to appear for a hearing in Randolph County Circuit Court.

Robin Lee Short, 36, of Elkins, is charged with one felony count of failure to appear. She remains incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond, set by Randolph County Chief Magistrate Ben Shepler.

Additionally, she waived her preliminary hearing, meaning her case will be bound over to the Randolph County Circuit Court for presentation to a grand jury.

Randolph County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Leckta Poling represented the state while Short appeared with Timothy Prentice as defense counsel. Randolph County Magistrate George M. “Mike” Riggleman presided.

On March 20, Deputy E.B. Carr, of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, was informed by Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney Michael Parker that Short had failed to appear for a plea hearing in Randolph County Circuit Court the same day, according to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court. Court Security Officer Jim Bibey called for Short three times and no one was present in the lobby.

Short was originally charged with one felony count of first-degree robbery.
