Upshur man faces terroristic threats charge

BUCKHANNON — An Upshur County man is behind bars and accused of grabbing a female individual as well as threatening to kill her and her friends.

Marc Eugene Adams, 45, of Buckhannon, is charged with one felony count of threats of terroristic acts and one misdemeanor count of domestic battery. He is incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $55,000 cash or surety bond, set by Upshur County Magistrate Kay Hurst.

According to criminal complaints filed in Upshur County Magistrate Court, Adams entered the residence of the alleged victim’s mother — located on East Green Street in Buckhannon — without invitation.

Once inside, Adams grabbed the left arm of the alleged victim who is a romantic partner of his, according to the complaint. Deputy T.A. Gordon, of the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department, observed a red scratch on the arm of the alleged victim roughly one hour after the incident.

The alleged victim told police she felt pain and soreness after Adams grabbed her arm and shook her, the complaint states. A juvenile in the residence told Gordon he had witnessed the alleged incident and corroborated the story of the alleged victim.

Court documents indicate roughly a week later, Adams allegedly made threats to the alleged victim and her “near friends” that he would kill them, as well as any law enforcement officers he comes into contact with.

At the time of the threats, Adams was armed with a 9-mm handgun, the complaint states.

Gordon notes in the report Adams “knows he is going to be arrested and used threats of murder to influence and retaliate against the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department and the government of the county of Upshur.”

Adams sent the threats both in text messages and “voice call” to the alleged victim, according to the complaint.

If convicted on the felony charge, Adams could be sentenced to not less than one year nor more than three years in the state penitentiary, fined not less than $5,000 nor more than $25,000, or both.

If convicted on the misdemeanor charge, Adams could be sentenced to not more than 12 months in jail, fined not more than $500, or both.
