Art of Elkins event is shaping up

ELKINS — More than 30 businesses have signed up to participate in Art of Elkins, a flagship event being unveiled by Elkins Main Street in June.

The event, which will take place June 10, will feature more than 75 activities, ranging from demos, crafts and tours to mini-classes, live music and giveaways. The event was created to showcase creativity to the downtown community and visitors alike.

Elkins Main Street Executive Director Karen Carper urges area residents to come out and see what the downtown businesses have to offer.

“We are so excited to present this event showcasing the amazing talent and creativity of our downtown businesses, and extremely pleased that so many businesses are taking part,” Carper said. “The art practiced each day by these hard-working entrepreneurs is often overlooked. Elkins Main Street invites the community to celebrate downtown Elkins’ wonderful culture of creativity at Art of Elkins.”

Carper added the event will offer individuals the opportunity to explore what she calls the “vibrant heart” of the downtown community.

“Art of Elkins is an opportunity to engage with and learn from the those who make downtown Elkins the vibrant heart of our community. There is no doubt that everyone who attends this event will gain from the experience, whether it is learning something new or enjoying local food and entertainment,” she said. “The greatest take away may be a better understanding and appreciation for the awesome Art of Elkins that is part of every business endeavor.”

Carper said she hopes the event brings scores of people to the downtown area.

“Our goal is to bring 1,000 to 2,000 people downtown for the day,” she said. “The outcome will be appreciation of the unique qualities of our downtown businesses. In the long term, we hope this translates to business growth and development in downtown Elkins.”

One wristband, priced at $5 for adults and $1 for children age 3 to 17, gives guests access to all activities.
