Concert tickets available

ELKINS — Tickets are selling fast for the 37th annual Deja vu Music Festival in Elkins, which this year will feature chart-topping artist Lauren Alaina.

Alaina was the runner-up on the 10th season of “American Idol,” and her song “Road Less Traveled” hit the No. 1 spot on the Country Airplay chart this April.

The popular singer/songwriter will headline the concert, set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Davis & Elkins College. Trent Harmon, “American Idol’s” 15th season winner, will open for Alaina. Harmon’s single “There’s a Girl” was a Top 30 hit.

For the third consecutive year, Davis & Elkins College has partnered with area businesses to sponsor a music show with proceeds going directly to the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA. Sponsors for the concert are Allegheny Insurance, Elkins Automotive/Fordland, Elkins Distributing, MegaCorp Logistics and J.F. Allen Co.

Having two famous “American Idol” contestants in one event in Elkins is exciting, said Sid Gillispie, executive director of the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA.

“It’s phenomenal,” Gillispie said. “Instead of going to Charleston or Huntington or Pittsburgh, you can see these artists in your own backyard for a fraction of the price.”

He said it’s been wonderful working with D&E, and he hopes to see a record turnout for the music festival.

Tickets are $35, and they can be purchased online at www.dewv.edu/arts-entertainment/season, by calling 304-637-1255 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., or by stopping by the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA at 400 Davis Ave., Elkins, or the Augusta Box Office in Jennings Randolph Hall at D&E College.

Anyone hoping to win Deja vu tickets should check out The Inter-Mountain’s Facebook page, as special giveaways will be announced throughout the week.

The concert is scheduled to take place at the college’s Claude King Davis Memorial Plaza, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved to Myles Center for the Arts Harper-McNeeley Auditorium at D&E College.
