Mountains Beckon

Pioneer Insurance agent Shelly Kerns, left, and Elkins Main Street Executive Director Karen Carper pose for a photograph with Third Ward Elementary School student Laiken McCauley Thursday afternoon in downtown Elkins. McCauley’s artwork was chosen to appear on the T-shirts for the annual Mountains Beckon Bicycle Parade & Rodeo, which is scheduled for Saturday. Registration for the annual event is set for 9 a.m. in the City Hall parking lot. The bicycle parade will start at 10 a.m., with the rodeo following at Joey’s Bike Shop on Third Street. The first 30 registrants age 12 and under will receive a free T-shirt, compliments of Pioneer Insurance, and a coupon for a kid’s ice cream cone from the Market Creamery at the Delmonte Market. Participants are invited to decorate their bicycles, and prizes will be awarded following the event. Judges for this year’s contest will be Elkins Mayor Van Broughton, Randolph County Commissioner Mark Scott and AmeriCorps member Samantha Hellman.
