Alumni Association awards scholarship
ELKINS — The Elkins High School Alumni Association recently awarded a “Duck” Grimm $500 scholarship to graduate Emily Grace Chewning. Officials said they want to express their best wishes and congratulations on her success.
Each year the alumni association awards a scholarship for $500 per year for four years of the recipient’s choice of college. The organization is presently providing for scholarships for three student.
The EHS Alumni Association was established in the 1990s. The purpose is to promote and support EHS sports, art, music, academics and other student programs, officials said.
Each year the Alumni Association offers an open house for all alumni and friends. It takes place at the American Legion from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. during the Fireman’s Parade of the Mountain State Forest Festival. Refreshments, music and door prizes are provided. Officials say it is a great time to meet old classmates and make new friends.
The organization has made donations to several student events this year and in the past.
Officials would like to thank all donors and businesses for their support.
“We ask that you continue to support us by renewing your yearly membership dues of joining us as a new member,” Wilfong said. “Memberships are only $10 a year or $100 for a lifetime membership.”
Donations can be sent to the EHS Alumni Association at P.O. Box 782 Elkins, WV 26241. Please provide personal information and the year in which you graduated.
Monthly meetings take place the third Thursday of the month at the Western Steer Steakhouse.
“We are in great need for the local alumni to attend these meetings,” Wilfong said. “We would appreciate your help and new ideas. Thank you for your support.”
