God and Freedom Rally set for Saturday in Beverly

BEVERLY — The third annual God and Freedom Rally is scheduled to kick off Saturday morning at the Beverly Fire Hall, raising funding for Appalachian Wounded Warriors.

“The purpose of this rally is to show support of the freedoms we have in this nation, to show support to God and to recognize our veterans,” Bikers for Christ Mountain Chapter President Danny Linger said.

Events open to the public will feature a unity ride, spaghetti dinner, door prizes and live music.

Registration for the ride will take place from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on the day of the event. There is a sign-up fee.

“We will have registration in the morning before the ride,” Linger said. “People can just sign up when they get there. What we’re holding is not a poker run, but a unity ride. We’re going to be together in unity for the same cause.”

Bikers will leave from the Fire Hall at 11 a.m.

The ride is expected to last an estimated three hours, officials said.

The route being traveled will include projected stops in Bartow, Cass and Snowshoe.

Last year, there were 80 bikers to participate in the unity ride, while only half that total took part two years ago.

“We are hoping for at least 60 bikes this year,” Linger said. “It would be great to have 75 bikes but it depends a lot on the weather.”

After the ride, at approximately 2 p.m., the spaghetti dinner will begin at the Fire Hall.

Dinners will include salad, spaghetti, dessert and drinks.

Various door prizes from the many sponsors will be raffled off, including tool sets, gift certificates, a hand gun and more.

There will also be rally t-shirts for sale at the Fire Hall.

Throughout the afternoon, there will be live music by Michael Bonnett and River’s Edge.

All funds raised by the ride will be donated to the Appalachian Wounded Warriors, officials said.

“The benefit event is open to and welcomes the public,” Linger said. “Even if someone isn’t a biker, they can come to the dinner and events we’re holding at the Fire Hall. People can also stop by on Saturday to drop off any donations they might have.”
