Group raising funds to help community
PARSONS — Community members are coming together to support those in need through Communities United in Faith, Hope and Love with the Parsons Ministerial Association.
The local organization was recently created to help meet the needs of the citizens in the community, and is focusing on giving back to the people of Tucker County.
Tammy Michael, a member of Communities United in Faith, Hope and Love, said the organization is focused on giving.
“It’s not just based on a few people, we are trying to help anybody that is in need,” Michael stated. “If there is a want or a need in the community, we’re just trying to help them out.”
Communities United in Faith, Hope and Love has already given back to several people in Tucker County having medical, financial and emergency needs through donations, fundraising and overall community support.
Michael explained the money given to those in need goes to a variety of different things based on the person’s particular needs, for example the costs of driving to their treatment, including gas, food and other expenses.
The organization has raised funds through donations, a cake walk, a recent auction and the most recent fundraiser, a basket raffle.
The ongoing Gift Basket raffle is the main fundraiser for the organization, with tickets for sale until the end of the drawing on August 11 at the free Davisson Brothers concert at Mill Race Park.
Tickets are being sold in bundles of three for $5 and can be purchased by contacting Tammy Greenlief or Michael Amy Owens by Facebook, or by visiting Michael at the Parsons City Building.
Tickets also will be sold at the free Michael Bonnett concert in Mill Race Park on July 21.
The basket includes multiple items, including a two-night stay at Canaan Valley, two rounds of golf at Canaan State Park, two rounds of golf at Holly Meadows, city of Parsons mugs, towels and ornaments, two certificates for a month at Wellness 24, several gift cards from local businesses and toys for
children.
Michael said the response has been tremendous from the community.
“I believe that Tucker County is a great place and we have a lot of people that love to help,” Michael stated. “I have lived here all my life and I have seen that more now then what I have ever seen in the past.”
Local organizations and businesses are also joining in on the giving by supplying free passes, gift cards and supplies for the gift basket raffle.
The basket is intended to grow in size and value with Communities United in Faith, Hope and Love still collecting items from businesses and community members.
Everyone, including those who do not live in Tucker County, are encouraged to give to the gift basket and make donations to the cause. The organization accepts donations of any kind.
Communities United in Faith, Hope and Love has raised and given back a combined total of around $1,300 for those in need.
The organization plans to continue the fundraising and giving into the fall season with a gospel sing and other activities.
“Whatever the need is, whatever somebody needs help with. We’re going to continue to try to do this as much as possible,” Michael said.
