Randolph County resident receives letter from Trump

ELKINS — An area resident is pleased to have received correspondence from the president of the United States.

Dan Miller, a lifelong resident of Randolph County, reached out to President Donald Trump with positive words of encouragement and support.

“I told him that I believe, with all my heart, that (his election) was a miracle from the Lord,” Miller said.

This week, the local resident was delighted to discover an envelope addressed personally to him from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Enclosed was a letter written on White House stationery and signed by the president.

Part of the letter from President Trump read, “Thank you for your kind letter and generous words of support. Working together, we will unify and strengthen our great nation, honor our government’s sacred duty to the people, and fulfill the promise of America for all of its citizens. United, we will achieve lasting change, peace through strength, and prosperity like never before.”

Miller, who first wrote to the president during his campaign, added that in both of the letters he explained that West Virginia is a traditionally Democratic state but Trump was very popular in the Mountain State.

“Melania and I are forever grateful for your support. Your encouragement, and that of millions around the world, sustains us every step of the way. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts,” the letter went on to say.

According to information on Politico.com, Trump received 486,198 (68.7 percent) votes in the 2016 presidential election in West Virginia, while Hillary Clinton totaled 187,457 (26.5 percent) votes. In Randolph County, Trump received 7,583 votes (70.1 percent) while Clinton garnered 2,724 (25.2 percent).
