Barbour County BOE discusses policy revision
PHILIPPI — The Barbour County Board of Education discussed a revision of policy regarding vacation and holidays for staff at Monday’s meeting.
The policy revision would make it possible for the county to provide substitutes for staff positions such as secretaries, mechanics, custodians and other service personnel positions during their absence.
Currently, the positions are left unfilled during holidays and vacations.
On Monday, board members also discussed the current funding situation regarding RESA providing an orientation and mobility specialty and an audiology services program instructors.
Both of the positions are vital to Barbour County students, with the instructors of the programs serving multiple counties, officials said.
With the carryover from last year’s budget, the Barbour BOE has enough money in the current budget to cover the program positions for the entirety of this year. However, due to the lack of funds through the state, the Board cannot guarantee that the positions will be covered in the next school year, officials said. If the budget cannot cover the costs of the services next year, the BOE will have to enter a contract for more expensive outside services.
