BUCKHANNON — Improvements and renovations were recently made to the Upshur County Recreational Park to benefit the community.

Lowe’s in Buckhannon donated items to the park in honor of their “Give Back Time” program. The Upshur County Commissioners hosted a ceremony to present Lowe’s staff and volunteers with a certificate of recognition from the county.

Assistant County Administrator Tabatha Perry initiated the project in March by contacting Lowe’s store manager Chad Corley.

“Mr. Corley and I met at the Buckhannon-Upshur Recreation Park and walked through the facility, noting what could be used to improve the pool and pavilion area and what equipment the concession stand lacked to being fully operational,” Perry said. ” Mr. Corley then took the information back to Lowe’s with him and determined what assistance they could provide.”

Lowe’s donated more than $600 worth of merchandise, as well as their time.

“Lowe’s donated a freezer-top refrigerator for the concession stand, approximately 70 bags of mulch for in front of the pool building, and the volunteers spread the mulch,” Perry said.

Corley, Maria Orsburn, Janet Civiello, Jack Bowles, Owen Holmes, Mike Raines and Samantha Claypool were all volunteers for the duration of the project.

“The Buckhannon-Upshur Parks and Recreation Advisory Board has discussed reaching out to Mr. Corley with regard to the ongoing trails project,” Perry said. “The ‘Lowe’s Give Back Time’ program is extremely beneficial to the County and I would recommend local organizations and boards reach out to Mr. Corley if they have a project in mind that could use assistance.”

Officials said the Lowe’s program benefited members of the community greatly, and in various ways.

“This program has aided in improving the current recreation facilities that Upshur County offers to its residents,” Perry said.

“As a county resident, I am thankful that we have the Upshur County Pool and the Stockert Youth Center for our children and the assistance this program has provided is greatly appreciated,” she said.

“It is admirable for

the Lowe’s employees want to be involved with the community

and I hope this entices more residents to become involved in

volunteering.”
