Annual corn roast set Saturday
ELKINS — The Elkins Area Bands Auxiliary will offer its annual corn roast this weekend in the Elkins City Park.
As tradition holds, the Elkins High School marching band and Elkins Middle School bands will be showcased this Saturday during the annual corn roast event.
Dinners will be available starting at noon, and Elkins Middle School band
students will begin playing tunes around 1 p.m.
EHS students will begin their march through downtown at approximately 2 p.m. from Lohr & Barb Funeral Home, finishing up at the Elkins City Park.
This 2017 competition season, the Tigers will be performing a James Bond-themed show, and pieces of this show will be previewed on Saturday afternoon.
In addition to lunch and musical performances, a yard sale will take place in the Elkins City Park starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m.
EABA Vice President Crystal Ballantyne said all funding generated from Saturday’s events will benefit bands at both EHS and EMS. Funds will be put toward new instrument purchase and band trips for both groups.
Games will also be available for youngsters to enjoy throughout the afternoon. Prizes including school supplies will be given out during the games.
Tickets will include a pork barbecue sandwich, one ear of corn, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert and a drink for $8.
Tickets for the event can be purchased on location in the Elkins City Park, pending availability.
