Belington to install new fishing dock

BELINGTON — Belington City Council discussed the installation of a handicapped accessible floating fishing dock on the city reservoir at Laurel Mountain Thursday.

The new dock will be built and assembled by American Muscle Docks & Fabrication of Wellsburg.

Council will fund some of the $18,565 cost of the project, along with the town’s Board of Parks.

The city is also looking into applying for a local in-county grant to help pay for some of the project.

The former wooden dock, located in the same area, was disassembled and removed due to safety issues.

At the same location, Council is also looking to add 10 primitive camping sites at the area, for both tents and campers.

The camping site project is in the early stages of development, with the city looking into costs and the general interest of the public.

“Right now we are just trying to keep the costs down to see how what kind of response we’re going to get.” Mayor Matt Ryan said.

He also noted Council is looking to add electric hookups, and possibly install water and sewer.

• Belington City Police Officer Dakota Linger approached Council about the possibility of installing a concrete pad for the department’s K-9 unit dog, in order to keep the dog cleaner and well-maintained. The dog is currently being kept at Linger’s house, where it is learning basic commands as it prepares for training in Philippi in September.
