Upshur Co. BOE honors local libraries
BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Board of Education recognized the month of September as “Library Card Sign-up Month” during their regular meeting on Tuesday.
Dr. Tammy Samples, board president, said, “Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children. … Library programs serve students of all ages, from early literacy to homework help to GED classes.”
In the proclamation from the board, it was noted that a library card can be seen as the most important school supply of all.
“Libraries continue to transform and expand their service in ways that meet the needs of the communities they serve, including making digital technology and information equally accessible to all,” Samples said.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting:
∫ Upshur County Superintendent of Schools Roy Wager recognized Buckhannon-Upshur High School student Sean Crites for being honored with the opportunity to be part of all-national choir.
All-National Honor Ensembles (ANHE) represent the top performing high school students in the country, according to the officials website.
∫ The BOE approved a number of collaborative agreements for Pre-K centers, including Kids R Kids, The Island Nursery Kindergarten Inc. and Child Development Center of Central West Virginia Inc.
