Helvetia Fair marks 100th year

The Inter-Mountain photos by Shannon Bennett Campbell The Swiss flag is displayed prominently in the village during the 100th Helvetia Fair Sept. 9.
Swiss Ambassador to the United States Martin Dahinden addresses nearly 250 assembled in The Meadow area where folk dancing by the Helvetia children was also enjoyed.
The Alpenrose Garden Club is represented by Jonathan Lacoque’s twin daughters who certainly brought many smiles to those lining the parade route.
The Hilltop Honey float won the ‘Best Over-All Float Award.’ Linda Smith keeps smoke on the hives during the float’s journey on the village’s main road.
The Daetwylers feature boots and shoe-making as their float’s theme and kept with their family’s history.
Goats are popular for their milk and it is common for those families settled on hillside farms to have a few they want to show in the parade.
The well-known Hutte Restaurant seen across the bridge is a busy place as parade-goers got a noon meal of traditional Swiss foods.
Dignitaries and visitors wear traditional Swiss outfits during many of the 100th Anniversary activities.
