MSFF Autumn Ales event scheduled for Saturday

ELKINS — The Mountain State Forest Festival invites the community to come out and enjoy brew tasting at the Autumn Ales Craft Beer Festival this weekend.

Melanie Dempsey, MSFF assistant director, said this year’s event is going to feature a number of quality breweries.

“It’s really nice this year because last year we had a handful and now that we’re up and running in our second year, this year we have so many more representatives, so it’s going to be a good event,” Dempsey said.

Set to run from 2-6 p.m. at the outdoor amphitheater located on the campus of Davis & Elkins College, the Autumn Ales Festival will feature brews from a number of distributors from around the state in addition to a few from across the country.

Brewing companies from West Virginia include Big Timber Brewing, Mountain State Brewing Co., Parkersburg Brewing Co. and Greenbrier Valley Brewing Co.

Among the breweries represented from outside of the state include Lakefront Brewery from Milwaukee, Great Lakes Brewing Co. from Cleveland, Dark Horse Brewing Co. from Marshall, Michigan, and Goose Island Brewery from Chicago.

A $35 entrance fee to the event will include a 4-ounce tasting cup and 16-ounce stainless steel tumbler.

“Attendees will receive a 4-ounce tasting cup so you can go around and sample before you commit to a full 16-ounce pour,” Dempsey said.

The entrance fee will also give each attendee 20 tickets to be used for tasting.

“It will take one ticket to do a 4-ounce sample and four tickets for a full 16-ounce pour,” Dempsey said.

Additional tickets will also be available for purchase.

Local food vendors will also be on site during the event, including Gino’s Pizza & Spaghetti House, Vintage Restaurant and Wine Bar, Beverly Bistro and El Gran Sabor. Payment will go directly to the food vendors at a cost separate from the fee to the main event.

Live musical entertainment for Saturday’s event will feature the local band Cross Town Traffic. Dempsey added anyone who wishes to attend the Autumn Ales Festival just to enjoy live music from Cross Town Traffic can do so for a cost of $5. Art activities will be provided for children at no cost.

A corn hole tournament will be open to two-person teams beginning at 2 p.m., with registration starting at 1:30 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to tournament winners.

The Randolph County Convention and Visitors Bureau is the sponsor for the Autumn Ales Craft Beer Festival.
