DRY FORK — The annual Autumn on the Dryfork Festival will give residents of Randolph and nearby counties the opportunity to be surrounded by a tapestry of fall colors while enjoying food, music and fun Saturday.

The event, which kicks off at 11 a.m., will feature a menu including chicken barbecue dinners prepared by Danny Bucher, pig roast meals prepared by Fred Pennington and the Assembly of God Women’s Ministry, and beans, coleslaw, rolls, desserts and drinks prepared by the Dry Fork Recreation Center, the host of the festival.

The Assembly of God Women’s Ministry will also be making apple butter on site, while the recreation center provides apple cider. Both will be available for sale.

“It’s a community effort,” said Rex Vance, Dry Fork Recreation Center board president. “We all get together and each group has their own little thing they do. We’ve done it that way for years.”

Musical entertainment will be provided by bluegrass ensemble “Maysville Express,” and the North Fork Baptist Church. There will also be a flag-raising ceremony, a silent auction and a variety of vendors.

Proceeds will go toward a creating a facility at the center which will be available to both the group and the public.

“All the money goes to trying to build a small wellness and fitness center,” Vance said. “It will serve the community, Canaan Valley, whoever wants to come. We will open up to everybody.”

Vance urged people to come to the festival, noting current weather predictions call for temperatures in the upper 70’s with minimal possibility of rain.

“It’s supposed to be a beautiful day, the entertainment is great and the food is great,” he said. “It’s just sort of a fall theme that we put together in the Appalachians of West Virginia.”

The festival is located at the recreation center, behind the Old Mill off Route 32 in Harman.

A pageant will also be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Harman School gymnasium.

The Dry Fork Recreation Center has been a nonprofit organization since 1998 and volunteers have worked relentlessly to upgrade and build the center into a fully functional wellness park.

The Dry Fork Recreation Center serves the community of Harman and surrounding area.
